Two big deals in the NHL and a new conference alignment
proposed. It has been a busy few days
and it’s exciting.
Best trade in my opinion happened today between Montreal and
Dallas. Dallas sent Michael Ryder and a
3rd round pick to the Canadiens in exchange for veteran Erik
Cole. Michael Ryder is a little familiar
with the Canadiens organization because he was drafted there and played his
first four years in the NHL there. I think
this is more exciting for Montreal because they got a 3rd round pick
and Ryder who has 6 goals and 14 points already this season and Cole only has 3
goals and 3 points, but I am excited to see the presence he’ll bring to the
Dallas organization considering he has a Stanley Cup ring.

Another big trade was Simon Gagne going back to Philadelphia for a 4th round pick. This was surprising to me because I think Gagne is worth more than a 4th round pick regardless of his stats so far this season which is 0 goals and 5 points. I think this will help Philadelphia a lot I'm excited to see if the move helps Gagne get back into his groove.

The other big thing is the new proposal that would take the 6 divisions and 2 conferences and it would turn into 4 divisions that would help travel times. The proposal would change the playoffs a little bit and I would like to see this happen. The 4 divisions would be 7, 7, 8, and 8 teams. I think that my earlier blog about the expansion teams would fit well with this realignment because 2 additional teams would even out he 4 divisions. Heres a look at how the teams would be divided.

Finally the NHL gets it right... the Red Wings belong in the Eastern Conference.
ReplyDeleteVery informative!
ReplyDeleteyes! I am hoping that the move is very beneficial to the Red Wings but I will miss staying up late watching the west coast trips.
ReplyDeletei think the conference change is a long time coming, especially for us wings fans, but then it put the western conference teams at an advantage for making the playoffs, wherein the might not be the best and much parity and disparity would throw off the scale. If anything get rid of the canes and panthers, bring back the whalers and move nashville to the east, then get rid of phoenix and give seattle, portland, and milwaukee a team
